NUTMEG is a popular spice, a tropical evergreen tree and the spice is made of its seed. It can add a warm, nutty flavour to savory and sweet dishes. The fruit is a pendulous drupe and when fully matured it splits into two, exposing a crimson-coloured aril, the mace surrounding a single shiny brown seed, the nutmeg. The name nutmeg derived from the Latin Nux Muscatus, meaning “musky nut”.
